Satya || Commitment to the Truth

Personal Definition: Simply put… if you say something, be sure of its truth.

Experience: When I consider the Yama Satya, or commitment to the truth, my mind is instantly drawn to the principle of honoring the human condition in all its mess. This is sacred and authentic to me.

Honoring the human condition is truth.

Truth is authenticity.

Practicing Ahimsa pushes me to hold space as a witness. It’s an unreal feeling to target your ego and actively voice ‘NO’. When I wasn’t accepting myself, I was misunderstanding of how anyone else could.

Truth, trust, truthfulness… it can be down right dark and maybe even feel like whiplash on some occasions. There’s going to be times when you really want to say ‘that wasn’t me’ *cue in the Brandi Carlile (if you don’t get that part, don’t worry). An authentic experience requires the utmost truth you can muster.
